Jesse and I watched Cam (2018), a glitzy, sensual, cyberpunk thriller. Really smart and interesting, tho it left some key questions unexplored. (Also, it did not devolve into a morality play about the evils of sex work, which was a welcome surprise.) Themes of identity, reality, paranoia, guilt, suicide.
Recommended for fans of Satoshi Kon's masterpiece Perfect Blue, or William Gibson enthusiasts. Recommended!! 🍑🍆
Watched Train to Busan (2016) with Sarah and Mark. A fresh take on the zombie story, focusing more on the relational elements and the horror of man's treatment of man, rather than the (still awesomely scary) fast zombies. In this way, it was reminiscent of (but much less horrific and cruel than) Sabu's revelatory Miss Zombie (2013).
Put a little Lovecraft in your life, with From Beyond (1986)! This Cronenberg-esque body horror thriller was just what the doctor ordered. 👍👍👍 gnarly practical effects ftw!!
Audition (1999) was awesome, altho parts were nearly impossible to watch. I'm not a fan of torture porn, but this had depth... like a much darker and more brutal Fatal Attraction. Thanks for braving it with me, Nicole!
YESSSSSS FINALLY, a movie worthy of the Top 100 challenge!!!! Julia Ducournau's Raw (2016) is the best horror movie I have seen in so long. If you liked Ginger Snaps (2000) or Når dyrene drømmer (2014), you're gonna love Raw (French: Grave)! Prepare to say "oh my god f*ck oh no, no don't do it!!!" cause it gets bloody and graphic fast, but this is transformation horror at its finest. 💯🏆🏆🏆
Watched Dario Argento's Opera (1987) tonight. WOW, it was amazing! Soo many incredible shots (love the crow's eye at the beginning), gorgeous music, and the series of strangely beautiful yet utterly grisly murders. I don't want to include any spoilers, but there was at least one shot I've definitely never seen before - honestly not sure how they did it. 😱👍👍
Jamie, Jake and I watched What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). It was definitely disturbing, but we couldn't get over the fact that Blanche is so ridiculously passive in her attempts to get away from her crazy sister. Not sure if that's a function of the times/gender roles, or if Blanche was just kind of a wimp. 🤣 Also now that damn daddy song is stuck in my head. 😅 I will say, it was interesting how the film explored sibling rivalry and female/child exploitation.
Ginger Snaps (2001) was amazing - WOW!! Really powerful stuff. And in the vein of some of my other favorite horror movies, Låt den rätte komma in (2008) and Når dyrene drømmer (2014). Quite possibly inspired the later films?
WOWWWW Santa Sangre (1989) is one the best movies I've ever seen, across genres. Such richness and depth of emotion! So very strange and haunting!! Brilliant. I knew I loved Dario Argento (Suspiria is my all-time favorite horror movie), but now I am pretty damn impressed by Claudio Argento, too! What a talented family.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014), directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, was superb! Have you guys seen it?? If not, please move it to the top of your Watch list! Also, that Arash Marandi is quite the cutie!! 😊 A tremendous and truly original film.
Slither (2006) was great!! Can't believe I hadn't seen it before, actually. I love Michael Rooker, and I love creature features, I love body horror, and I love practical effects, so this was what we call a "win, win, win, win." Thanks for watching with me, Mark!
Cronos (1993) was soooo good!! Really inventive and visually arresting. Another gem from Guillermo del Toro, with Ron Perlman convincingly portraying a brutal thug. Surprising moments of comedy and poignant emotion, too. Fabulous!

Drácula (1931) -- filmed with the same sets as the English version, at night, with a Spanish-speaking crew. I love Bela Lugosi, but I confess I prefer Carlos Villarías as the bloodsucking count!! Love the ambiance in this version, too.
The original teen slasher. This movie terrified me when I first saw it, and it still does. I can never look at a glass sliding door the same way again.
Now THAT'S what I call horror! House of Usher has it all - Vincent Price, a haunted house, a family curse, a woman who sleepwalks nightly down to the crypt... "Evil is not just a word, it's a reality."
So enjoyed watching Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) with Tiriel... a delightful, offbeat Swedish romance. Reminded me of another subtle Scandinavian film, the powerful Danish werewolf story, Når dyrene drømmer (When Animals Dream).
Silence of the Lambs is so brilliant. And plucky Starling, d'awww, so fierce and inspiring!!
Misery is so creepy... If I were a celebrity, I'd be so afraid if anyone told me they're my "number 1 fan"...
An American Werewolf in London is hands down my favorite horror movie of all time. Everything about it is so rad... The super badass special effects makeup, adorable protagonist, great sense of humor, etc., etc. A gem!
