Tusk (2014)

Terra and I watched Tusk (2014), which was a trip. Disgusting, but darkly humorous... although for me the "ick" factor was distracting haha. As Terra said, "I definitely don't regret watching it but I also can't think of anyone I would recommend it to off the top of my head." 🤣🤣 

There was also a lot of misogyny which didn't seem to drive the plot at all, it was just uncomfortable.

Featuring the Sixth Sense kid (Haley Joel Osmont), and randomly, Johnny Depp.

Definitely the weirdest Kevin Smith film (I've seen, anyway). 

La Cabina (1972)

La Cabina (1972) was... boring. Maybe more interesting if viewed as an allegory, but purely in terms of action... there was none. 😅

Cube (1997)

Cube (1997) was aggressively terrible. I want my $3.99 back. 😂

Pandemic Movie Grades

My pandemic movie grades:

Outbreak (1995) -- A. The original and the best. Everything you'd want from a pandemic movie -- corrupt government, vigilante scientists, a helicopter chase, and a monkey named Betsy. / 6.6 IMDb / 60% Rotten Tomatoes

It Comes at Night (2017) -- B+. A visually intense and claustrophobic look at paranoia and isolation during a plague. I have some objections to the storytelling but don't want to give spoilers, hmu if you've watched and wanna discuss. / 6.2 IMDb / 88% Rotten Tomatoes

World War Z (2013) -- B. It has Brad Pitt. / 7.0 IMDb / 66% Rotten Tomatoes

Contagion (2011) -- B-. An all-star cast and an interesting plot, with lots of sciencey content for those who are so inclined. Definitely scratches the pandemic "itch," but the meandering storytelling strangles the suspense. A more aggressive editor could have made this movie a lot tauter and more thrilling. Would be interested to watch a fan re-cut. / 6.7 IMDb / 85% Rotten Tomatoes

Flu (2013) -- C. Cliched Korean disaster melodrama. Exciting in the moment but not too memorable. / 6.7 IMDb / 36% Rotten Tomatoes

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

Jamie, Jake and I watched What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). It was definitely disturbing, but we couldn't get over the fact that Blanche is so ridiculously passive in her attempts to get away from her crazy sister. Not sure if that's a function of the times/gender roles, or if Blanche was just kind of a wimp. 🤣 Also now that damn daddy song is stuck in my head. 😅 I will say, it was interesting how the film explored sibling rivalry and female/child exploitation.

Get Out (2017)

Don't love being laid up in bed on the heating pad, but did finally get to watch Get Out - WOW that movie is amazing! Trenchant, funny, and grippingly suspenseful. 10/10 for sure!
